DESCRIPTION

handhThe Notre Dame Alumni Club of Dallas is sponsoring a home repair project through Hearts & Hammers again in 2010. We need you to volunteer your time to help this worthy cause. No particular tools or skills are needed, although skills and tools are always welcome! This year our project home is again quite straightforward – this 89 year old structure needs some siding repair, landscaping work, a new handrail and some new screening, but most of all – lots and lots of painting – we need two good coats of paint on the home before we leave. Our volunteer group is always short on ladder supply, so please bring your ladders - especially tall or extension ladders. Please also bring latex paint brushes, scrapers and any small paint pails if you have them - if not we have a supply from previous projects.

Our project house is the home of Mr. and Mrs. David and Earline Simpson. Mr. & Mrs. Simpson live just south of Fair Park at 3207 Tuskegee St. (Google Map of 3207 Tuskegee)

As always, the Alumni Club will supply your lunch in exchange for your help. Please bring your own water and drinks. Our project starts promptly at 8:00 am on September 18 - we ask that you arrive by 8 am so we can apply two coats of paint and still be finished in time get home and cleaned up before our night game that evening (at Michigan State 8pm ET). We will have a liability waiver for you to sign when you arrive. For liability reasons, we cannot have children on the worksite - our minimum volunteer age is 16 on Sept 18th (a youth waiver and adult supervision are required) and our minimum volunteer age is 18 on Sept 11th.

If you cannot volunteer on September 18th but would still like to participate, we will have a preparation day session on September 11th. We will prepare the house for painting the next week by removing loose paint chips, clearing away debris and starting some landscape work. We will schedule to start as early in the day as possible – we will be in touch with our confirmed volunteers for the 11th.

PLEASE RSVP to edward.toomey@fmglobal.com for either the 18th and/or 11th with an indication of what ladders & tools you will be bringing, if any. We need an accurate headcount to order lunch and we always have to plan around our ladder count. Thank you for your help – we look forward to seeing you again this year.
